UMaine Hutchinson Center announces, “Restorative Practices Workshops for Educators” in Saco, Augusta, and Belfast

plantThe University of Maine Hutchinson Center announces a series of 5 full-day workshops on Restorative School Practices for K-12 educators this spring at locations in Saco, Augusta, and Belfast. The Restorative Practices Collaborative of Maine will be facilitating each workshop.

 

Introduction to Restorative Practices will be held March 30, 2017. This workshop will introduce participants to the restorative approach and restorative practices that have proven effective and sustainable.  Using Circles in Schools- Tier 1 will be held the following day on March 31, 2017. Both workshops will be held at the People’s Choice Credit Union in Saco.In addition, Introduction to Restorative Practices will be held April 6, 2017, in Augusta.

 

The Restorative Approach emphasizes the importance of creating positive, healthy school climates based on empathy, trust, and respect. Research shows that students who are connected to a school, peers, and teachers in a safe, welcoming environment, show academic and social improvement. Restorative practices are currently used in multiple schools in Maine, juvenile corrections, and youth-serving organizations.

  • Using Circles in Schools – Tier 1 Proactive Circles (3/31/17 Saco; 4/7/2017 Augusta)
  • Using Circles in Schools – Tier 2 Responsive Circles (4/27/17 Augusta)
  • Restorative Discipline in Schools for Administrators (5/4/17 Belfast and Augusta locations)

 

Cost is $175 per workshop, which includes materials, lunch and certificate of contact hours.
