Dr. Wendy Rapaport presents group strategies in education, health and mental health program at UMaine Hutchinson Center in September
Belfast, Maine — A one or two-day professional development program, “Group Strategies in Education, Health and Mental Health,” will be offered Sept. 14 and 15, 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center, 80 Belmont Ave., in Belfast.
The program benefits participants interested in maximizing group work skills, including educators, health care workers, clergy, social workers and mental health professionals. Through cognitive and experiential learning, participants gain an understanding of — and a commitment to initiate — group work practice in professional settings.
Workshop facilitator and clinical psychologist Wendy Rapaport, PsyD, LCSW, is a faculty member at the University of Maine Graduate School of Social Work and the University of Miami School of Medicine – Diabetes Research Institute. For more than 30 years, she has specialized in individual, marital, family and group therapy for patients with diabetes. Rapaport also has conducted workshops on adult play therapy using humor to cope with chronic illness. Rapaport has published more than 30 articles and book chapters, and she lectures nationwide. She was awarded the National Health Information Award for her book, “When Diabetes Hits Home: The Whole Family’s Guide to Emotional Health.”
Participants have the option of attending for one or two days of the program. A fee of $95 per person per day or $175 for two days; $50 per day or $95 for two days for UMaine students is required at the time of registration for the program. Need-based scholarships are available.
