An Ordinary Day: Seeing the Unseen
February 12 - May 3, 2016
The works of 22 Maine artists will be featured in the photo exhibition “An Ordinary Day: Seeing the Unseen” at the H. Alan and Sally Fernald Art Gallery, University of Maine Hutchinson Center, Feb. 12-May 3.
In the hands of an artist, the camera and its processes are tools for presenting emotions and dreams in symbolic imagery. Leo Tolstoy said, “Art is not a handicraft, it is the transmission of feeling the artist has experienced.”
The work of the 22 Maine artists ranges from the mundane to the sublime. Through their art, the overlooked, the abandoned and the insignificant are anything but ordinary.
The exhibition features the works of Sharon Arnold, Jeffrey Becton, Michele Benoit, Thomas Birtwistle, Leslie Bowman, Joseph Corrado, Ann-Claude Cotty, Susan Davens, Gregory Dunham, Susan Guthrie, Brenton Hamilton, Jaap Eduard Helder, Terry Hire, Ann Krumrein, Seth Lester, LeeAnne Mallonee, Christopher Morse, Jim Nickelson, Drew Sanborn, Margaret Lindsey Sandborn, Claire Seidl, and Jane Yudelman.
The exhibit will open Feb. 12, with a reception from 5-7 p.m. In the event of snow; the snow date is Feb. 13, from 4–6 p.m. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
