Sensing Storm Surge: Citizen Event

July 19, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join University of Maine researchers Dr. Kim Huguenard and Dr. Laura Rickard to learn about the effects of storm surge — or, rising water levels generated by a storm — in the Penobscot River estuary. The event will be held on Thursday, July 19th from 5-7 pm at the UMaine Hutchinson Center, room 138C.

This interactive data sharing event is open to the public and will showcase results of an ongoing, National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded citizen science project to measure storm surge in three Maine estuaries with varying physical characteristics. Results will highlight data collected by local community members, including storm surge levels during recent storm events.  The discussion will cover how this information can help communities plan for future coastal development and climate change adaptation. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served. For more information, please visit http://sensingstormsurge.acg.maine.edu/.

To RSVP, please contact Dr. Laura Rickard (sensingsurge@gmail.com or 207-581-1843)
